Sports freaks can start their day with a sea kayak tour to the prestine beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park. With a stable one or two persons sea kayak you paddle to the Tata Islands (shag colony) and further on to marvellous archways and golden beaches. Just in time for a break or a dip in the crystal clear waters. Seals, dolphins and blue penguins will be charmed by your company!
Or, you can start your day with a relaxing beach walk followed by a guided Art & Taste Tour in Golden Bay. On this trip we visit a fruit orchard, distillery and art studio where you will be welcomed by local ‘celebrities’. They will offer you a unique insight in the daily life of a rural community in New Zealand. A perfect way to soak up our alternative lifestyle and taste all our local ‘goodies’ !
Around midday the panoramic deck of our Lodge in Pohara is the decor for a delicious gourmet lunch with a combination of European flavours and local delicacies.
In the afternoon we take you on a guided nature walk and visit historic places like Onetahua Marae and the anchoring place of Abel Tasman’s sailing ships. After our tea stop at a secluded beach, we discover the real beauty of a New Zealand coastal forest with an abundance of plant life and centuries old rata trees. We will share with you the secrets of our forest and tell you all about the special meaning of these plants as tool or medicine for Maori people and first European settlers.
This tour option offers you wonderful nature experiences with a touch of culture & adventure in a part of the Bay seldom visited by overseas visitors.
