Day 3

Welcome to Paradise: Abel Tasman NP!

After our long day out yesterday, it is great to know that today we can sleep in a little longer. For our All Inclusive Package clients another healthy start of the day is waiting with a lovely breakfast hamper delivered to your Suite. The morning is free to prepare for lunch and enjoy all the amenities at our lodge.

Just before noon the bus will take you for a scenic drive along the beautiful eastern coastline of Golden Bay with idyllic spots like Tata Beach and Wainui. End station of our trip is the heart of the world-famous Abel Tasman National Park. The coastline and beaches are of an unprecedented beauty with flowering rata trees and golden sandy beaches. This is the idyll of the Pacific Islands right in New Zealand!

It is therefore almost heart breaking to leave this idyllic starting point of our walk. But knowing that so much more natural beauty is waiting for you, should be enough to convince you getting onto the track and starting your exciting Walk in the Park!

This afternoon we will follow the most beautiful sections of the world-famous Abel Tasman Coastal Track. This northern part of the track has many hidden treasures that are seldom unveiled to occasional visitors! Here no overcrowded paths but purity and silence and just you and the wonderful nature surrounding you! In an ideal world the pathway to this piece of paradise should be easy and flat… Unfortunately to reach this coastal paradise, you will need an effort… or two… The terrain of our walk is hilly with many short up and downhill climbs and descends. One thing is guaranteed: after every effort you will awarded with another postcard beach. One after another all ideal places to soak up the fresh sea air, to go for a swim or to find the perfect picnic spot for your afternoon tea.

Different magnificent lookouts on the way will showcase you the different unique aspects of this coastline: from endangered seabirds to old coastal forest, private golden beaches, beautiful rock formations and even noisy seals breaking up the silence. This walk really has it all!

After leaving your last footsteps in the golden sand, it is time for the inland part of the walk and to fill your water bottle at the historic tramping hut nearby. Many curves and a good wide track will bring you in 30min above the coastal canopy. Here you will be awarded with a welcomed bench overlooking the photogenic inlet below and finally… the first sight of Golden Bay. Congratulations! You have reached another ‘milestone’ of The Bay Walk: this was with no doubt your last climb! From here on the finish line is coming close with a last and easy descent to the Bay. But please take your time as the evening light over the Tata Islands is often a real eye catcher and the amazing patterns and colours of the inlet a good reason for another amazing photo shoot.

A short panoramic drive from the shelter and carpark will bring you back to our Lodge. On arrival you may feel that the muscles had two hard days and that our shower and outdoor spa can really be divine! And for those who booked our All Inclusive Package even no restaurant walks tonight. We will serve you a lovely two-course stone grill or barbecue dinner in the privacy of our Lodge. With no doubt the perfect ending to a wonderful walking adventure!
