Walking & Tramping
The walking opportunities are almost endless with a huge variation in duration, difficulty and scenery. Located in the heart of two National Parks, Pohara Beach is the perfect starting point. On the secure My Stay webpage of our site, each guest has access to our guestbook which details all walking options in the Bay.

Guided tours
Take part in a Sandspit 4×4 tour adventure to discover the longest sandspit in the world (34km). An experienced tour guide will introduce you to the unbelievable world of Farewell Spit where wind and tides have shaped the landscape in such a unique way.

Mountain biking
More and more bike enthusiasts are discovering the fantastic bike trails in Golden Bay. One of the most popular is the Rameka track linking the top of Takaka Hill with Motupipi Valley.

Horse trekking
Feel the wind in your hair as you ride across tidal flats and cliff tops with incredible panoramic views over Farewell Spit and the wild coastline of the Tasman Sea. The treks can be ridden at a leisurely pace or a little faster for more excitement. More info

Golf
For golf lovers, Pohara offers a scenic and challenging nine-hole golf course with beautiful views across the tidal estuary to the mountains of the Golden Bay, only a five minute drive from our Lodge.

Scenic Flights
On a fine day a scenic flight over Golden Bay, the surrounding National Parks and the Nature Reserve of Farewell Spit is an unforgettable experience.

On the water…

Sea kayaking
Escape the congestion of the Southern Abel Tasman Coast and paddle along the Northern coastline to experience the Park the way it used to be: peaceful and spectacular. Float around the Tata Islands with the shag colonies and awesome rock formations, or cruise into Wainui lagoon along golden sandy beaches, you may even come across playful dolphins and seals… Our Sea Kayaking Experience offers the perfect introduction.

Fishing
There are a wide range of fishing opportunities in Golden Bay. Feel the thrill at Anatoki Salmon Farm as you savour the fresh flavour of your catch straight from the pristine waters of the Anatoki River. Those looking for a bigger challenge will find good angler access along the trout fishing rivers.

Scenic cruises
Take a water taxi from Kaiteriteri or Marahau and cruise along the coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park. Visit our sensational sandy beaches and walk/cruise to Totaranui or Wainui.
