Food Packages

Your choice of walking package (Basic or All Inclusive) determines whether meals are in- or excluded.

Self catering option

In our Basic package no meals are included but guests have free access to our guest kitchenette or can pick-up out different cafes all on walking distance from the lodge. A local dairy store is open 7/7.

All-Inclusive option

In our All-Inclusive package all your meals & almost all drinks are included from the evening of day 1 to the morning of day 4 what makes it a fully catered three night/four day Hiking Experience.

Where possible we source fresh, organic products and combine them with local delicacies to prepare great meals for our walkers. Our Bay is known for its alternative lifestyle and big support to organic grown crops. In the summer months the local stalls are filled with delicious fruit and veggies all taking profit of our mild and sunny climate. It is our aspiration to let you taste as much of these delights as we can!

Overview All-Inclusive package
Day 1: Welcome drink, gourmet platter, coffee/tea
Day 2: Breakfast hamper, picnic lunch, 2-course dinner in iconic café
Day 3: Breakfast hamper, picnic lunch, pre-dinner nibbles, 2-course dinner in the lodge
Day 4: Gourmet Breakfast Buffet in our lounge

It can be a bit hard to leave our warm and comfortable beds… but unfortunately there is no other choice… as your body will need lots of energy to control the walking challenges of the day!
On the two walking days we serve a great continental breakfast that will be delivered to your Suite. For those still attached to a cooked option, all provisions (eggs, bacon, cheese & mushrooms) will be waiting for you in our guest kitchenette so you can be your own Chef for the day.
On departure day things got a lot more relaxed, so time to join us in the panoramic dining room of our lodge for a full gourmet breakfast that will meet every taste and appétit.

Picnic lunches
After breakfast you can ‘create’ your own picnic lunch box in our guest kitchenette. We will provide a wide selection of goodies, so no limits to your creativity! Our focus is on providing ingredients with a local and healthy touch. Your lunch includes:
A selection of meats and cheeses
Fresh fruit and vegetables
Pie or Quiche
Cake or cookies
Energy bar, snack, tea, coffee, instant soup or hot chocolate

Two of the three nights you will have dinner in the intimate atmosphere of our lodge so you can fully relax and enjoy our gorgeous views over the Bay. On arrival day we serve a delicious gourmet platter, on day 3 a two-course dinner in barbeque or stone grill style.
On our great ‘Night Out’ (day 2) we like to mingle among the locals and soak up the ambiance in the iconic Mussel Inn café. A place every New Zealander knows (or at least should know…) for its unbeatable atmosphere and… delicious organic beers. No better way to this walking day than by entertaining ourselves with a good ‘Captain Cooker’ or ‘Strong Ox’. We take a seat around the bonfire and meet with colorful locals or characterful artists. A memorable way to end our Discovery Day at the northern side of Golden Bay!

Filtered water

Cold drinks and small snacks can be purchased for very democratic prices from the honesty bar in our guest kitchenette. It is allowed to BYO alcohol if you prefer. A grocery shop, takeaways, pizzeria and three eateries are all on walking distance from the lodge.

Special diets & allergies
Most of our meals are set up in buffet style so we can cover almost any dietary requirement.
A vegetarian dinner option is only available on day 2. If you have however any specific dietary requirement or allergy, please let us know in advance and we will try to find the right food products for you.
Most food preparation is done by ourselves however we appreciate a contribution of our walkers in the general cleaning and the preparation of their lunchboxes.
