Food Packages

Your choice of walking package (Basic or All Inclusive) determines whether meals are included.

Self catering option

With our Basic package meals are not included but you have free access to our guest kitchenette or you can eat out at a local cafe within walking distance of our Lodge. The local dairy store is also open seven days a week.

All-Inclusive option

With our All-Inclusive package all meals and almost all drinks are included from the evening of Day 1 through to the morning of Day 4; a fully catered three night/four day Hiking Experience.

We source fresh, organic products and local delicacies and prepare great cuisine for our walkers. Our Bay is known for its alternative lifestyle, favouring organically grown crops. In the summer months, the local stalls are filled with delicious fruit and vegetables grown in a mild sunny climate and we aspire to give you a taste of as many of these delights as we can!

Overview All-Inclusive package

Day 2: Breakfast hamper, picnic lunch, 2-course dinner in iconic café
Day 3: Breakfast hamper, picnic lunch, pre-dinner nibbles, 2-course dinner at the Lodge

Breakfast
It can be a little hard to leave our warm, comfortable beds, but it will be worth it…
On the two walking days we serve a continental breakfast delivered to your Suite. For those preferring a cooked option, eggs, bacon, cheese and mushrooms will be waiting for you in our guest kitchenette for you to be Chef for the day.
On departure day, things will be more relaxed as you join us in the panoramic dining room of our Lodge for a full gourmet breakfast that will satisfy every taste and appetite.

Picnic lunches
After breakfast you can ‘create’ your own picnic lunch box in our guest kitchenette. We will provide a wide range of local, healthy goodies; your lunch will include:
Sandwiches
A selection of meats and cheeses
Fresh fruit and vegetables
Pie or Quiche
Cake or cookies
Energy bar, snack, tea, coffee, instant soup or hot chocolate

Dinners
On two of the three nights you will have dinner in the intimate atmosphere of our Lodge so that you can fully relax and enjoy the beautiful views over the Bay. On Day 1 we serve a delicious gourmet platter and on Day 3 a two-course dinner barbeque or stone grill style.
On our great ‘Night Out’ (Day 2) we mingle with the locals soaking up the ambience at the iconic Mussel Inn cafe, a place that every New Zealander knows (or at least should know…) for its unbeatable atmosphere and delicious organic beers. There is no better addition to this walking day than a good ‘Captain Cooker’ or ‘Strong Ox’. We take a seat around the fireplace and meet with colourful locals and artists, truly a memorable way to end our Discovery Day on the northern side of Golden Bay!

Drinks included

Welcome drink on arrival (Day 1)
A glass of local wine/beer at the iconic cafe (Day 2)
A carafe of acclaimed Nelson wine or a glass of local beer (Day 3)
Filtered water
Cold drinks can also be purchased at reasonable prices from the honesty bar in our guest kitchenette. BYO alcohol is also fine if you prefer. A grocery shop, takeaway and eateries are all walking distance from the Lodge.

Special diets & allergies
Most of our meals are set up buffet style, so we can cater for almost any dietary requirement.
A vegetarian dinner option is only available on Day 2. If you have specific dietary requirements or allergies, please let us know in advance and we will be able to source suitable food products for you.
Most food preparation is done by ourselves, however we really appreciate our walkers helping out with lunchbox preparation/cleaning afterwards.
